Moor's heads, or « testa di Moro » in italian, are handmade decorative objects typically found in the southern part of Italy. Our « Picciotti » Moor's heads epitomize all the passion and fervor of Sicily.

The Palermo model recalls the legend of Moor's heads: it is indeed in the Arab quarter of the city of Palermo, named "La Kalsa", that around the year 1000, a young Moor declared his undying love to a young Sicilian girl.

Maison Gala's "Picciotti" are handmade masterpieces of Sicilian craftsmanship, which uphold the traditions of the past yet have that subtle contemporary edge!

The Trinacria collection, made entirely in small craft workshops of Sicily, the region further south of the "boot", consists of decorative objects made following the most ancestral traditions of the island. Trinacria, like the other collections of Maison Gala, celebrates with style and refinement all your convivial moments, according to the most precious Italian tradition. The materials used in this collection deeply represent the Sicilian land: the majolica (Italian earthenware) and the lava stone of Etna.

A damp, soft, non-abrasive cloth is sufficient to clean the object. Do not use chemical detergents as they may damage the enamel.

The products must be handled with care, taking care not to cause accidental falls, impacts with hard surfaces (even the slightest one can cause the parts to crumble) or anything else that could jeopardize their integrity.

"Majolica" is a form of earthenware commonly found in Sicily. It was widely used by artists in Renaissance Italy, as evidenced by the myriad artworks made from this material dating from this period. Earthenware is fired at temperatures in the region of 1,000°C, which is somewhat lower than those used for materials such as stoneware and porcelain. Since earthenware is porous, it is usually enameled. There are many advantages in working with majolica, one of the most significant being its glossy finish, which it owes to very low firing temperatures conductive to a delightful, brightly colored result. Objects made of majolica will add a casual yet air elegant air to your decor. Why not yield to the temptations of our Trinacria collection?

Maison Gala is part of a responsible approach to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our societal footprint: all the products of Maison Gala are in complete harmony with nature through the use of noble, ecological and environmentally friendly materials, such as clay. This commitment is also integrated with the use, more and more, of fully recycled.
