Manuele, first meetings
Manuele est né à Crema en 1984.
Sa rencontre avec la céramique a eu lieu dans des circonstances particulières.
Après des études de sculpture à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Brera, il commence à travailler dans le domaine du marbre tout en poursuivant sa recherche artistique personnelle en tant que sculpteur, expérimentant toute une série de techniques et de matériaux.
« Studio pottery » and a new lifestyle
Manuele est constamment en quête de techniques et de matériaux lui permettant de donner libre cours à tout instant à sa création et à sa production et lui accordant la liberté et la sérénité nécessaires pour pouvoir transformer des idées en quelque chose de concret et autonome.
Au cours de cette recherche incessante, il rencontre un concept connu sous le nom de « studio pottery« , autrement dit, un style de vie qui constitue la synthèse entre l’artisan et l’artiste dans une recherche perpétuelle de l’équilibre entre esthétique et fonctionnalité, entre technique et interprétation, entre règle et liberté.
Between aesthetics and functionality
The concept of “studio pottery” stems directly from the Japanese philosophy of Mingei (folk craft or popular art), the aim of which was to produce beautiful, elegant objects yet simple and practical enough for everyday use.
On discovering this concept, Manuele realized at once that it was what he wanted to do. He also wondered why he had taken so long to come across the technique.
his own potter’s wheel
He immediately set about constructing his own potter’s wheel.
There followed a series of trials, experiments, failures, construction of an oven, efforts to find the right materials and fundamentals, encounters with other ceramists, who had been through similar experiences.
Ces derniers font alors preuve d’une générosité et d’une empathie inattendues, facilitant son évolution dans une découverte et un enrichissement incessants jusqu’au moment de comprendre qu’il avait enfin trouvé « la terre et le feu qu’il avait si longtemps cherchés ».
Art and Sustainability
Manuele ensures that all the items he creates are certified for use with food according to the strictest European standards.
For Maison Gala, he will create the collections for chefs: he will offer bespoke stoneware plates and accessories , sugar bowls, sauce boats, bottles, in the most diverse forms, combining creativity and environmental awareness thanks to the noble materials used such as minerals and tree ash for the enamels.
A fine example of art and sustainability, both values close to Maison Gala’s heart.
