MAISON GALA and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
In two decades of working for major groups, I have had ample occasion to hear all about CSR and the steps taken by companies to demonstrate their commitment to the concept.
What is CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSBILITY (CSR)?
The following is a definition together with a few examples to illustrate the implications of CSR for the corporate world:
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
is a process by means of which companies adopt behaviors that contribute to sustainable development by ensuring that their decisions have a positive impact on society and the environment, while catering to the expectations of their stakeholders.
Environmental and societal sustainability
Companies subscribing to the principles of CSR will therefore take steps to ensure that their impact on society is positive, for example by adopting gender equality recruitment policies and to protect the environment by using recyclable packaging, all the time with an eye to their bottom line.
To strike the necessary balance, they will need the help of their stakeholders, in other words, their staff, their clients, their suppliers, their shareholders and the local, regional and national authorities.
Companies keen to take their corporate social responsibilities will make the deliberate decision to subscribe to these principles and, in addition to complying with legal requirements, will develop best practices to improve their environmental and social performance.
Why subscribe to the principles of CSR ?
Companies applying CSR are expected to cater to the particular challenges of their business sector, giving, as a company, a new vision of their role and their responsibility in society!
Maison Gala and its social footprint
At Maison Gala we take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. For us it is important to have a clear vision of our role and potential societal effects. So what are we doing to improve our social and environmental footprint?
- Our raw materials come from EUROPE and are 100% NATURAL: clay, lava stone, linen and hemp.
- Our aim is to protect and preserve the work of the CRAFTSMEN and WOMEN who produce objects that are both timeless and original.
- We work with producers and suppliers that have acquired CERTIFICATION for their compliance with SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT standards: MOCA, OEKO-TEX, GOTS.
New eco-responsible developments in the pipeline
This is just the first stage in our commitment to society and the planet.
We are working on a whole series of socially responsible projects for our brand. To give you just a foretaste?
Upcycling* and the use of other noble materials to replace the all-pervading plastic that is ruining our lives in order to encourage even more responsible and sustainable consumption.
*Upcycling is the process of transforming by-products and materials to create new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality than those that went before. And, in one of my next blog posts, I shall be telling you more about this concept.
